Adult Men who Were Victims of Child Sexual Abuse Adult Male Victims of Childhood Abuse Whether you have always remembered the abuse as a child or if you are just now beginning to have memories of the abuse, please know that you are not alone. What you are feeling is the pain of the event. Even though the actual abuse occurred in your childhood, many of the emotions associated with that trauma have been locked away. The process of remembering and acknowledging what happened can be very painful. It is also the beginning of healing. Some of the effects of childhood sexually abuse of boys are: A sense of deep shame Lack of trust in others because of the childhood betrayal Difficulty in intimate relationships Difficulty maintaining "normal" adult relationships. Physical complaints such as stomach aches and chronic headaches Severe lack of self-esteem from the shame of the abuse Feeling uncomfortable around other men A deep sense that something is wrong with you as a man Questioning your sexual identity as a man Addictive behaviors such as: drugs, alcohol, sex, and pornography.
