If you feel that your child demonstrates several of these characteristics, we recommend you contact one of the trained counselors list on this web page. Increase in complaints about physical ailments such as: headaches, stomach aches or body aches. Age inappropriate sexual behavior: the boy may begin to act out sexual acts or sexually related conversation that is not appropriate for his age. Changes in behavior/academic performance at school. Difficulty sleeping. This can be caused by the anxiety related to the abuse. According to Dr. R. Timothy Kearney sometimes children will initially report the abuse in the form of a dream/nightmare. Changes in eating patterns. Emotional difficulties such as: Poor peer relationships Regressing to behavior more appropriate for younger children Poor self-image Depression Anger at God for "letting bad things happen" Refusal to pray for a specific person (Adapted from the book, Caring for Sexually Abused Children, by Dr. R.
